Stages of Growth with EMDR Intensives

We all have to start somewhere. Over the past few years I’ve gone through my own journey with EMDR intensives and consulted with a lot of EMDR therapists navigating their journey to offer EMDR intensives in private practice. I look back at all of this and conceptualize it as 4 stages of growth. In this post I want to give you an overview of these four stages of growth.

Stage 1: An Idea

Offering EMDR intensive sessions in your private practice is an idea. You're thinking about it. You have heard about EMDR intensives and like the idea, but you feel hesitant. Maybe you're not sure where to begin or are feeling overwhelmed by the obstacles in the way.

Stage 2: Experimenting

Offering EMDR intensive sessions is a small experiment in your practice. You're bravely testing it out. You've done a few EMDR sessions 90+ minutes long with one or a few clients. You want more, but still feel cautious. You're really enjoying the experimental sessions & you'd like to incorporate more EMDR intensives, but you're concerned about being able to reliably fill your EMDR intensive sessions.

Stage 3: Consistent Integration

Offering EMDR intensive sessions are consistently part of your practice. You want to create specific offerings. You're happy with consistent EMDR intensive sessions, and you have ideas about creating cohesive programs or packages. Maybe you want to shift into shorter term work with clients. Bigger shifts are feeling risky. You know the intensive EMDR you're doing is working. You trust you can fill your schedule. But, you have some concerns about making bigger changes.

Stage 4: Evolving Mastery

Offering EMDR Intensive sessions or programs are reliable and becoming refined. You want to or already are offering highly specialized premium experiences. Your fabulous ideas are limitless! You want to offer upscale package options, retreats, or convert your practice to exclusively intensives.

Sometimes we are comfortable here and everything is running smoothly! This is such an amazing accomplishment!

And sometimes, it feels like something is still getting in your way. You know what you're doing as an Intensive EMDR therapist, and your intensives are amazing! And yet... something is still stopping you from bringing those fabulous ideas into reality.

Which stage is resonating with where you’re at now? Do you have an idea of where you’d like to go next?

Take some time to plan out how you're going to move to the next stage. Then decide on small experiments to move you forward one step at a time.
